1957 Army versus Navy Golf at Annapolis
Five matches would define the win. Four matches were in, and the score was tied two matches to two. Shedd remained on the course as the final deciding twosome. It was learned that Shedd had lost seven of the first nine holes, and despair set in for the Army team. Shedd began the back 9 with wins on holes 10, 11, and 12. It became exciting when Shedd won 13, 14, and 15. Team members began to follow the group as interest increased. Shedd won the 16th hole to tie the match, with two holes to play. Hope was accelerated when Shedd won the 17th hole. He was now 1 up with one hole to play. Army saw the win when Shedd won the 18th hole. An unbelievable event that day! After 7 down on the front nine holes, Shedd came back to win every hole on the back side, and Army prevailed 3 to 2. An Army win over Navy! The season was a success! |
