The motto “Hold Firm” alludes to the tenacity of the personnel in performing their tasks. This book along with over 75 photos chronicles the life of one soldier serving during World War II in the 810th Signal Service Battalion. His personal papers document his time from induction into the Army, training, service at Fort Hancock, NJ, England, and France. The information is published so that his service along with all others in the Signal Service Corps is not forgotten. Many soldiers served during World War II in many capacities. For communications to take place at all levels of command throughout Europe, the Signal Service provided the knowledge and skill to set up necessary equipment for the services along with seeing that all messages got to their destination by any means. Each enlisted person played a part in the War. This man’s memories provide a glimpse into the daily life, hard work, and even good times that kept their spirits high. No one escaped the fears of war, but they did discover how to survive wherever they served.
