Three years in the Army Reserve followed by five years of full time service with the Iowa Air National Guard in Des Moines. The only trivia that might be noteworthy is from 1965 through much of 1969 I was a Sergeant in charge of a shift of Air Policemen responsible for the security of nuclear weapons stored at the Des Moines Air Base. A Top Secret thing at the time, we guarded Genie Air-2 air to air missiles that contained a 1.5 kilo ton nuclear warhead. The Genies were suppose to be utilized by the F-89 Scorpion aircraft then in use by the Des Moines Air National Guard unit. In case of attack by Russian bombers the F-89's were suppose to intercept them over northern Iowa or southern Minnesota and shoot down the Russian hoards with an atomic blast. The theory was that such a low yield explosion would not harm people on the ground if detonated at high altitude. Whatever....

After receiving my BS Degree from the University of Nebraska in Omaha I completed a 27-year career with the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation -mostly chasing/playing cowboys and Indians in Western North Dakota. I retired and joined the United Nations International Police where I was with the advance party to enter Kosovo just after the bombing halt in 1999. Serving first as Liaison Officer to the American Military, later as Chief of Investigations, and occasionally as Regional Commander in the American area. My unit investigated almost 100 homicides the first nine months we were operational.

Returning home in early 2003, and being a graduate of the FBI National Academy, I went to work part-time for the FBI as an investigator conducting background investigations on FBI employment applicants, and other federal applicants and appointees as needed. This work has taken me to both the East and West coasts where I've met some very interesting and important people.

I took the winter of 2006-2007 off and went to Iraq as a senior law enforcement advisor on the commanding Generals staff. Back in uniform they put me on a DC-10 at Fort Hood, Texas with 300 young soldiers on the long flight to Baghdad. I observed my 65th birthday on that airplane.

As of today (07/19/10), I'm still working for the FBI and also teach criminal justice courses part-time at Omaha's Community College.
