JOANNE IRENE KIRCHER HUNT
Urbandale - Joanne Irene Hunt, 83, passed away Sunday, September
16, 2018, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, IA. Services will be held
9:15 am Thursday, September 20, 2018, at St. Mary of Nazareth Catholic
Church. Burial will follow at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines, Iowa.
Joanne was born June 25, 1935, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines,
IA, to Louis and I. Madeline (Scott) Kircher. Joanne lived all of
her life in Des Moines. She attended All Saints Catholic School
and graduated from North High School in 1953. After high school,
she attended Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1956.
She married John D. Hunt on October 20, 1956 and to this union they
were blessed with two daughters.
Joanne worked as a Registered Nurse for Mercy Medical Center and
Broadlawns Family Health Clinic for 40 years, retiring in 1997.
She was a Charter Member of St. Mary of Nazareth Catholic Church,
Mercy Alumni Association, Life Member of the Embroiders Guild of
America, and a member of the Des Moines Pioneer Club. She truly
enjoyed her friends, especially those from nursing school and the
many organizations she was part of. Joanne won many blue ribbons
at the Iowa State Fair for her needlepoint and was honored to needlepoint
a Christmas ornament for the White House Christmas tree. Above all,
Joanne was a very loving, generous, and caring mother and grandmother
who put her family before anything else.
Joanne is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth (Russell) Cross
of Des Moines, IA, Julia (Jeff) Swartz of Urbandale, IA; grandchildren,
Ryan (Anne) Cross of Des Moines, IA, Andrew (Jill) Cross of Seward,
AK, Megan (Tyler) Koontz of Des Moines, IA, Matthew (Christina)
Cross of Stuart, FL; sister, Mary (Harry) Fisher of Des Moines,
IA; great-grandchildren, Margaret Cross, Elizabeth Cross, Norah
Koontz, George Koontz, Porter Cross, Caroline Cross, Magnus Cross,
John Cross, Martha Koontz, Lilly Cross. She was preceded in death
by her parents; husband, John; brother, Michael Kircher; and sister,
Katherine Griffin.
The family will receive friends from 8:45 - 9:15 am prior to the
Memorial Mass. Contributions may be made to St. Mary Nazareth Catholic
Church, the Food Bank of Iowa, or Mercy College of Nursing. Online
