Cherry: small soft round fruit, red or black when ripe, containing a stone. Cherries always have to be picked ripe. They do not ripen and mature well after they have been picked. You can keep cherries for one to three days.
Cherries are native to Europe.
Cherries taste best consumed "warm" from the tree. Jam is often made from cherries because they cannot be stored well. Cherries can be frozen but, for best results remember to first remove the cherry pits.
